My niece Rebecca patiently humoured me as I desperately tried to remember everything I supposedly learned during our flash workshop. The advice was simple - if backlit, underexpose the ambient by 2 or 3 stops; if top or side lit, use -2 or -3 flash compensation. How come when the camera is in hand, everything leaves the brain?! This was the best of the bunch. I hate the catchlights - screams of flash, but not sure what else I could have done as the walls were too far away and the rim of the hat would have blocked bounce from the ceiling. Practice, practice, practice...

Absolutely nothing original or remarkable about this shot, except it was the first time I've really played with a macro. It was quiet in the store today, so I spent hours playing with this new toy. Gotta love this job :)

What I love most about this time of year is coming home after a day at work to this light in the living room. Gotta love the promise of spring!

ceejanerun > I've seriously fallen behind on the dailies. I started a new job last month, in a photography store. The pay and hours are nothing to write home about, but the opportunity to learn is worth it! Of course, there are some side benefits like playing with a 5D all afternoon and 3 or 4 co-workers giving me tips...!

This shot was taken for my portrait course. We've been asked to pick a theme and come up with 4 or 6 images for a show at the end of the month. I'm still struggling with the theme, but this shot was inspired by Tippy's shot last month of her grandfathers cowboy hat. I'm really happy with how this one turned out.

I'm cheating this week, and posting photos from last weeks trip. I'm having MAJOR block with this week's course assignment - a self portrait. I've spent hours the last 3 days shooting and deleting. I have nothing but admiration for those of you who post SP's on a regular basis. My photo for my course may just well be me pulling my hair out!
